Sierra Nevada.
For those of you who are not familiar to Sierra Nevada, let me fill you in. Sierra Nevada translates to Snowy Mountain, and it is a series of mountains towering above 3000m. The tallest peak is Mulhacen at 3481m, with its sister Valeta a close second at 3398m. Mulhacen also happens to be the highest peak in Spain.

The ski resort is situated on the south west face of Valeta. It is a short drive from Granada, 30 minutes. From Malaga Airport it is only 2 hours.

There are 65 kilometres of marked runs, varying from beginners to expert. The resorts base station is at 2100m and highest lifted point is 3300m.

The views from the higher parts of the resort are nothing short of spectacular. To the south and south east is the mediterranean, which on a clear day you can see Morrocco. To the west you can see Granada, and the vast plain in which it lies.

The resorts village is at the base station. The village comprises of many hotels, appartments, the odd hostel and a whole heap of shops and bars. The night life is quite lively, with some bars closing well past 8 in the morning.

The resort boasts some of the best weather for skiing in Europe. The resorts catch cry is Sol y Nieve, which translates to Sun and Snow. The sunshine is that predictable that some tour companies guarantee your money back if you dont get a sunny days skiing!

Sierra Nevada also happens to be Europes southern most ski resort. In fact in spring, you can ski in the morning and surf in the afternoon. The mediterranean is just over an hour drive from the base station.
