Granada.
Granada offers a great day trip for any visitor staying in Sierra Nevada. It is a short half hour drive down by car or 45 minutes to the bus station.

The Alhambra by far is the biggest draw card, attracting over 2 million visitors per year. It is a series of palaces and gardens, dating back from the time of the Moors (Moops).

Apart from the Alhambra, there is Albaicin, the old moorish part of the city. The best view of Albaicin can be made from the Alhambra, and the best view of Alhambra can be made from Albaicin. There are many different vistas from Albaicin, but the best of the lot would have to be the parador de St Nicholas.

But there is alot more to be seen in Granada. The University has restored many historic and important buildings. Being University buildings you can enter freely within University hours.

Of course there are the many Cathedrals and Churches. Many are quite unassuming from their exterior facade hiding an incredibly rich array of architecture and paintings within.

The town also happens to host a strong contingent of Students. Granadas population is 240,000 of which a 70,000 (one quarter) of the population is University students. This makes for a lively night life and youthful influence on the cities streets.

If you require more information about Granada, would like to see some more photos of the city, or maybe you need a map of Granada, then click here and you will be forwarded to the website www.granadamap.com

A great time to visit Granada is Easter (Semana Santa). You can ski all day, then drop into Granada during the evening to see the Easter processions. They are quite a spectacle, the clothing, music, imagines and ritual. It is a great time to explore Granada too as many of the city streets are closed, allowing you too concentrate your attention on the cities architecture and atmosphere, as opposed too passing traffic. The citys churches and cathedrals are at there best during this time, spruced up with flowers and the best china.
