Guejar Sierra
This small village can be seen from the road as you climb the mountain towards Sierra Nevada. Situated next to a reservoir, this village is typical of these mountains.

Itīs narrow streets are of moorish origin. The lanes climb up and down the hill side, bending too and fro like a goat track and occasionaly darting underneath someones house. The streets are lined with pot plants which provide a stunning contrast to the white washed walls.

The buildings that line the streets have great character. There walls are rarely vertical or straight, with small windows that seem to have been placed randomly.

Guejar Sierra is no more than a half hour drive from Sierra Nevada and 15 minutes from Granada.

Salobreņa
Salobreņa is a village perched upon a cliff beside the beach. It was once surrounded by sugar cane.

Apart from sugar, the sugar cane is used to make rum. It is said that that the original sugar cane that was brought to cuba was taken from Salobreņa. The most famous rum from these parts is Rum Pallido, with itīs secret recipe only know to 2 people, the owners father and son.

The climate is tropical, with mangos, bananas and other tropical fruit. In the coldest part of winter, the temperature rarely drops below 15 degrees.

Salobreņa is a little more than an hour drive from Sierra Nevada.
